Digital Storytelling Lesson

Digital Storytelling: digital storytelling is the process of taking student writing, typically a narrative, preparing a script from that narrative, and then creating a video based on the script that combines still frame imagery, music, and the students voice to tell the story.

Essential Question:
How does digital media enhance the stories we tell?

Student Objectives:
Students will be able to:

  • Develop a story concept, write a rough draft, edit the story with feedback from classmates, and finally write and type the final script for the movie.
  • Express individual, social, and cultural perspectives through story development.
  • Research, gather, and organize multiple sources of print and nonprint information — such as photos, print media, drawn images and video found online or at home — in order to deepen understanding and integrate information and ideas across varied sources and content areas.
  • Learn about copyrighting issues arising from using print and nonprint sources.
  • Combine voiced script, music and images to create a digital movie of their story.
